Amana’s Maktab program gives students a steady after-school or weekend environment to grow in Qurʾān recitation, Qāʿidah, daily duʿāʾs, sūrah memorization, and essential Islamic Studies.

Families may choose weekday classes, weekend classes, or the full 6-day option depending on their child’s schedule and learning needs.

Structured Qurʾān progression. Students build step by step through Qāʿidah, sūrah reading, tilāwah, and memorization support.
Practical daily Islam. Duʿāʾs and Islamic Studies are taught with meaning, practice, and real-life application.
Online and in-person flexibility. Both weekday and weekend options are available online or at Amana’s Bronx location.
Checkpoint accountability. MESBA standards are maintained, and students are assessed through checkpoint-based progression.

The Maktab curriculum is designed to nurture Qurʾān reading, memorization, daily practice, Islamic knowledge, and strong Muslim character.

Students develop foundational Qurʾān reading skills through letters, sounds, rules, fluency, and structured practice.

Students practice reading selected sūrahs with correction, pronunciation support, and gradual fluency.

Checkpoint-based Qāʿidah progression

Students are assessed as they complete key Qāʿidah topics such as makhārij, ḥarakāt, madd, sukūn, shaddah, qalqalah, ikhfāʾ, iqlāb, iẓhār, idghām, mīm sākinah rules, lām and rāʾ rules, and mixed Qāʿidah examples.

Naẓirah / Tilāwah checkpoints

Qurʾān reading progresses through a structured checkpoint system beginning with Sūrah al-Fātiḥah and short sūrahs, then continuing through Juz ʿAmma and the wider Qurʾān. Students must show fluency and proper tajwīd before advancing.

ʿUlamāʾ checkpoint testing

When students reach checkpoint stages, qualified ʿulamāʾ or examiners conduct checkpoint testing so that students are assessed with consistency, accountability, and care.

ʿĀlimah Tasnim Karim graduated from Madrasah Mu’einul Islam in Zakariyya Park, Johannesburg, South Africa. She brings over five years of teaching experience in New York City, having taught children and young students across various maktab and madrasah settings.

In Amana’s Maktab program, she guides students through Qāʿidah, Qurʾān reading, sūrah memorization, daily duʿāʾs, Islamic Studies, and shakhsiyah building in a structured and nurturing environment.
